July 4th Facebook privacy protest

Posted in Miscellaneous on May 14th, 2010

A note to my Facebook friends to explain my pending disappearance.

I have always valued privacy. Unfortunately, Facebook seems to be moving toward the belief that my information becomes their property to do with as they wish.  I have noted many changes in privacy settings recently.  The changes are made without sufficient notice and seem to always result in the sharing of my information without my permission.

What Facebook needs to do is simple.  Change from an ‘opt out policy’ to an ‘opt in policy’.  Under this concept any change made would automatically be set with the strictest sharing policy rather than the loosest. IE nobody but me can view it unless I allow them to.   This moves the decision on what to share back to me and away from Facebook.  This is as it should be.  It is my information; it should be my choice.

What can you do if you disagree with Facebook’s policy?

On July 3rd post a note stating that you are joining the Facebook independence protest.  Then on July 4th deactivate your account for 24 hours.  You can always reactivate your account. If enough people do it it will send a message.

Please don’t get me wrong I enjoy Facebook and hope they see the light.  But I doubt they will.

Unless Facebook changes very soon I will be deleting my account permanently.

You people could really use the public relations course I took at Mercer University.

I watched with great disgust the video on CNN of the Rescue Task force trying to get needed supplies to Haiti.  I am an RN and will discuss this with my class.  Your representative notes that you make exceptions for media but not medicine.

You have lost my business and I will also voice my concern to my Representatives in congress.  I will be sending the IReport link to all my friends and coworkers.

My hope is that congress will look at your policies the way they are beginning to do with financial firms.

Taxes by any other name still smell putrid

We are now seeing the first hints of what I have long felt was in the works.  Democrats have moved from tax and spend to spend, spend, spend and then????

To paraphrase Democrats:

  • Of course we won’t raise “taxes”.  We will look for “alternative ways to raise revenues”.

Sorry,  it just won’t fly; when the government takes money from my pocket it is a TAX period.

So ask yourself where does the spend spend spend end?

The answer is in your wallet; or rather, comes out of your wallet.

Did you elect the spend and tax democrats?  This is what the party has become; a lotto winner with $$ burning a hole in their pocket.
